The question

Is it permissible to work with a company that sells cosmetics, clothes, shoes, and watches, where buying and selling occur at a 30% profit, and an incentive in the form of products of a certain value is offered when purchasing large quantities, in addition to a gift of products when introducing other people to work with the company, knowing that there is no obligation to introduce people, and no payment is made except the price of the products? And is the gift offered when purchasing more than $250 permissible?

The answer

It is permissible to participate in a company's marketing system if it is free, and to benefit from its offers, such as purchasing permissible products at a reduced price to sell them for profit. There is no objection to a discount when purchases exceed a certain amount, nor to attracting customers for a known commission, provided that the products are permissible and the subscription is free. However, if the subscription requires purchasing a product one does not desire merely for the sake of subscribing, then it is gambling (qimar) and impermissible. Therefore, if the company's system is free of শরiah prohibitions, there is no harm in working with it; otherwise, one must ascertain the true nature of its system.
