Is it permissible to pay the second half of the Zakat to the mother who will give it to her poor family in Egypt, in exchange for the mother giving the questioner a gift that exceeds the value of the Zakat, knowing that the questioner intended to give this half to the poor in his own country?
money is a right for the poor and the needy, so it is not permissible to sell it or exchange it for something else. If zakat money is sold, the sale becomes void to the extent of the zakat amount, because the right of the beneficiaries is widespread. It is obligatory to give this money to the beneficiaries without compensation. It is permissible to transfer zakat to relatives if they are in greater need. If zakat is given to the mother to distribute it, it is not permissible to take compensation for that. It is also impermissible by consensus to give zakat to one's parents. Rather, it is given to the mother as an agent to distribute it to the beneficiaries.
