Is zakat obligatory on cotton that is grown and sold for cash, then added to one's wealth, and is it zakat on money or 'ushr?

The view held by the Shafi'is, Malikis, and Hanbalis is that cotton itself is not subject to Zakat (definition). However, its monetary value is subject to Zakat if it reaches the nisab (definition) (minimum taxable amount) and a full year has passed over it. The amount of Zakat due is a quarter of a tenth (2.5%). If the payer of Zakat has other money for trade, the value of the cotton is added to it, and its hawl (Zakat year) becomes that of the previously existing money.
