Is it permissible to give the father from the zakat on gold to pay off his debt?

It is permissible for a woman to give her husband's father from the zakat (definition) of her jewelry if the father is in debt and unable to repay it, as he is considered among the gharimin (those in debt). Similarly, it is permissible for a son to give his father from the zakat of his wealth for the same reason. A condition for giving zakat on behalf of another is that the owner of the wealth grants permission for it, because zakat requires intention (niyyah (definition)). The majority of scholars hold the view that jewelry prepared for personal use is not subject to zakat.
