Scholars differ regarding the on women's jewelry intended for adornment. The majority of scholars hold that it is not obligatory, while others maintain that it is obligatory if it reaches the (minimum threshold) and a hawl (full lunar year) passes. This latter opinion is more cautious and preferable. If zakat becomes obligatory, it can be paid in cash, or from the gold itself, or by selling a portion of it to fulfill the obligation. If the gold falls below the nisab, there is no zakat due on it until it reaches the nisab and a hawl passes.
