The question

Is it true that there is a great reward for a wife if she pleases her husband during her pregnancy? And did Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) say: "Three things show Allah's increased mercy for a woman: her engagement, her care, and the ease of her pregnancy"? And does refraining from having a second child make a woman bad and cast her out of Allah's mercy, especially with existing illnesses and health difficulties?

The answer

It has not been mentioned in the Prophetic or the narrations of the Companions and their Successors that ease of pregnancy is a sign of Allah's special mercy upon a woman. Rather, this falls under matters of the unseen, which should not be delved into without knowledge. Allah's mercy may be in well-being or in trials. A woman's trial with difficulty in conception may indicate Allah's mercy upon her and her great reward and status with Him, especially since calamities expiate sins. Whoever wishes to attain Allah's mercy should be patient in adversity and grateful in prosperity. However, if there is a medical condition preventing conception, this is a valid excuse and does not indicate a woman's badness or her being cast out of Allah's mercy. Moreover, making a decision not to conceive again might be premature, as a woman's opinion may change after Allah eases her situation and she finds rest.
