How can a Muslim obtain divine blessings in his new home?

There is no harm in supplicating for blessings upon the house. One should thank Allah Almighty for the blessing of the house, both verbally and through actions. It is permissible to slaughter an animal when building a house, out of gratitude to Allah, joy, and to honor well-wishers, or as charity. However, it is forbidden if it is done to ward off the evil eye or jinn, and it becomes major shirk (definition) if it is for the jinn.
