What is the reality and legitimacy of the actions of a man whose creed is sound and who calls to monotheism, and who solves women's problems with their husbands without seeing the husbands, and who indicates the whereabouts of missing persons, and who knows private matters about people simply by knowing their names, knowing that his actions are always for good and are hidden?

To deal with the unclear statements and actions of a person whose outward appearance suggests righteousness, one should ask him directly. If he clarifies that they are not from sorcery or divination, then maintain a good opinion of him. These actions might be perspicacity (firasah), inspiration (ilham), or divine success (tawfiq) from Allah. It should be known that inspiration (ilham) is what moves the heart to act upon something without needing evidence, and it should only be acted upon when all other proofs in the realm of permissible matters are absent. It is not permissible to be certain about what results from perspicacity or inspiration, due to the possibility that its source could be from Allah, Satan, or the self.
