What about someone who did not shave their newborn's hair on the day of their Aqiqah, and should they weigh the hair and donate its value in charity?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Shaving the male newborn's hair on the seventh day is a , based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Every boy is mortgaged by his ; slaughtering should be done for him on the seventh day, he should be named, and his head should be shaved." And it is to give in charity the weight of his hair in silver. If the shaving is omitted due to an excuse or otherwise, there is no sin upon him, but it is recommended that he estimate the amount of his hair and give its weight in silver as charity.
