Are those who act upon the Hadith regarding performing ablution thoroughly despite difficulties, taking many steps to the mosques, and waiting for one prayer after another, granted the virtues of the Murabit (one who is stationed in defense of Islam), and will their deeds continue to be rewarded after their death?

The virtue of Ribat (guarding the frontiers for the sake of Allah) is immense. A Murabit (one who performs Ribat) is someone stationed at frontiers where enemy attacks are feared.

Another Hadith (definition) regarding the virtue of Ribat was narrated by Abu Hurayrah: (Shall I not tell you what erases sins and raises ranks?) They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: (Performing ablution thoroughly in difficult circumstances, taking many steps to the mosques, and waiting for one prayer after another. That is Ribat.)

Scholars have agreed that these qualities are indeed a form of Ribat, because Ribat is the commitment of oneself to acts of obedience. It is not necessary for the reward of these qualities to be equal to the reward of guarding the frontiers, for the Mujahidin (those who strive in Allah's cause) have a greater reward. Although a Muslim may attain martyrdom without fighting, it is not necessary for its reward to be equal to that of a martyr on the battlefield.
