The question

What is the ruling on a father who is extremely stingy with his wife and children regarding housing, clothing, and food, even though he is financially capable and very generous with his guests and second wife, in addition to his ill-treatment of his household and suspicion of his daughters, despite his apparent religious commitment, and how should the children deal with him?

The answer

What a Muslim observes regarding the actions of some committed individuals should not affect his faith. A Muslim should contribute to increasing good examples. One must also be wary of becoming discontent with God’s decree and challenging His wisdom, for the tribulation of a believer in this world is good for him if he shows patience and gratitude. It is not true that hardship is only for the disobedient and happiness for the pious. The questioner should treat her father well and endure his harm, advising him with wisdom and gentleness, while observing his right to respect and appreciation, and supplicating for his guidance and righteousness.
