The stepdaughter is the daughter of the wife from a previous husband. She is permanently forbidden to her mother's husband if he has consummated the marriage with her mother, and she is permitted not to observe hijab (definition) in front of him. As for their rights and obligations, they are limited to maintaining ties, showing respect, and good treatment. Neither financial support, service, nor obedience is religiously obligatory between them. However, mutual kindness between them is preferred, as it fulfills the objectives of Sharia (definition). This is because honoring one's wife includes being good to her daughter, and a daughter's dutifulness to her mother includes honoring her mother's husband. A great reward is hoped for whoever shows kindness to those in need. Allah has commanded the preservation of family ties through connection and kindness, and religious texts have been mentioned that encourage this.
