Is the interpretation of a dream done by what occurred to one's soul regarding its interpretation, or by interpreting it verbally?

A dream does not come true merely through psychological interpretation, nor through interpretation by those who are not skilled in it. Rather, it comes true if it is interpreted by someone knowledgeable in its interpretation. It is stated in "Sharh Muslim," "Al-Fath," "Sharh Sunan Ibn Majah," and "Ta'wil Mukhtalif al-Hadith" that a dream is not necessarily fulfilled by the first interpreter, but by one who correctly understands its interpretation and is knowledgeable. A true dream circulates until it is interpreted by an expert, whereupon it comes true as interpreted. As for the prohibition of narrating a dream except to a beloved one or a person of sound judgment, it is explained as a measure to ward off envy and malicious schemes, and not because every interpretation necessarily comes true. This is supported by the Almighty's saying: {Relate not your dream to your brothers, lest they plot against you a plot.}
