Was Sheikh Zaki Daghestani reciting with musical مقامات (maqamat), and what is the ruling on that? Is it permissible to listen to his recitation with the belief that musical مقامات (maqamat) complement and enhance the recitation?

The Fatwa Center is not specialized in evaluating reciters, but rather in answering scholarly questions. We have previously affirmed the permissibility of reciting with maqamat (melodic modes) as long as the letters are not altered. A reciter's preference for them does not necessitate refraining from listening to him.
