Is a revocable return after a single divorce, intended for discipline, considered valid? Does the wife have the right to refuse it, and would that be deemed disobedience (nushuz), leading to the forfeiture of her right to maintenance? What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding the intervention of the wife's family to corrupt the marital relationship and prevent her from returning to her husband?

If the wife's family interferes to corrupt the relationship between the spouses, this is forbidden incitement (takhbib), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He is not of us who incites a woman against her husband or a slave against his master."

The husband's return to his wife before her waiting period (iddah) is complete is valid, provided he has not completed the three divorces. The wife is not permitted to refuse this, as the right of return (raj'ah) belongs to the husband. For its validity, it is not a condition, by consensus, that the wife knows or consents, or that her family knows.

The wife's refusal to speak with her husband and her disobedience to him is considered an act of defiance (nushooz). If her defiance is proven, her maintenance (nafaqah) is forfeited, unless she is pregnant.

The husband is advised to strive to reach an understanding with his wife's family and to accept what can be accepted of their conditions and manners, while seeking their رضا (good pleasure) in what is permissible, because married life is not free from problems, and they must be overcome with patience and wisdom.
