Interference by the husband's family to spoil the relationship between the spouses is Islamically forbidden. It is advised to be patient and tolerant, and to avoid gatherings that corrupt the relationship. The husband is not permitted to sever ties with his kin; rather, he should combine maintaining kinship with not acceding to their wrongful demands. He is not obligated to obey his parents if they command him to infringe upon the rights of others. The wife should be an aid to him in maintaining kinship, especially with his mother.
