What is the ruling of Islamic law on the marriage of a girl to a committed young man, given that his father lives with them and suffers from urinary and fecal incontinence, and this was not mentioned to the girl until after her engagement, and the fiancé’s sister may suggest to the fiancé that he take care of his father when his health deteriorates, knowing that the girl is unable to bear this situation?

Legally, a wife is not obligated to serve her husband's father unless she volunteers to do so. If she declines, there is no blame upon her, especially if his health condition is critical and requires special care. The solution in this case is to allocate a separate home for the husband's father, and his son should serve him himself or hire someone to serve him. The cost of the hired help should come from the father's money or the sons' money. Sons are legally obligated to financially support their poor parents. Furthermore, it is not permissible for a son to evict his father from the house he owns in order to get married there; rather, the son should rent a place for himself. The wife has the right to stipulate an independent dwelling that she does not share with any of the husband's family.
