Purchasing magazines that contain only pictures is unlawful (haram), because possessing pictures is prohibited due to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures." As for magazines that display fashion, they must be examined. Not every attire is lawful (halal), as it may involve the exposure of 'awrah (parts of the body that must be covered) due to its tightness or other reasons. It might also be clothing specific to disbelievers, and imitating disbelievers is prohibited due to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." Therefore, Muslims in general, and women in particular, are advised to avoid such attire.
