The answer

Allah sent His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with guidance and the religion of truth, making his law the final one, abrogating those that preceded it. Therefore, no one is permitted to draw closer to Allah except through what the Prophet (peace be upon him) legislated, and following what he brought is the path to salvation. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that imitating Jews and Christians is blameworthy and forbidden, and that it is obligatory to differ from the People of the Book in outward conduct. This is because outward participation gives rise to an inward resemblance in character and deeds, and leads to the loss of distinction between truth and falsehood. Outward difference, conversely, necessitates separation and distinction, and ensures the cutting off of allegiance between Muslims and their enemies.
