Is it necessary to make up prayers if bleeding continues for more than 40 days after childbirth, stops, then returns intermittently, with the menstrual cycle recurring twice a month?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Blood discharged after forty days is considered istihadah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) and does not prohibit prayer or fasting, unless it coincides with the woman's regular menstrual period. In that case, it is considered menstruation. Missed prayers after the forty days must be made up, except for the days that coincided with the usual menstrual period.
