Must a girl obey her parents by quitting her job as a condition for the marriage to proceed, or must she obey her fiancé, who rejects women working and claims that work is limited to caring for the husband and children?

Obedience to parents takes precedence over obedience to a fiancé, as he is an outsider whose obedience is not obligatory. As for work, if it is free from শরীয়াহ-prohibited elements such as impermissible mixing (اختلاط محرم) and seclusion (خلوة), there is no objection to remaining in it. The fiancé must be informed that once he becomes a husband, his obedience will take precedence over that of the parents, and if he commands her to leave the work, she will leave it. However, if the work involves impermissible mixing (اختلاط محرم), it is not permissible to remain in it, because there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator.
