What is the ruling on collectively ختمing the Qur’an, and is it considered an innovation?

The optimal way to complete the recitation of the Qur’an is to read it aloud to earn the reward of recitation. This is what the Salaf (pious predecessors) used to do. It is also Sunnah to gather for studying the Qur'an. Completing the recitation in the manner mentioned is not without benefit, but one should be cautious that some participants might not read aloud, or might make mistakes in recitation. Therefore, it is preferable for the forum members to learn the rules of recitation and Tajweed from a skilled reciter, so that each person reads a section while the others listen to correct them.
