What should a man married to two women do, if the first is in one country with his two daughters, and the second is in another country, and both are requesting a divorce because they cannot tolerate the other wife? Knowing that the first wife blames him for abandoning his children, and the second wife requests a divorce because she does not accept his relationship with the first wife, in addition to the impact of his health condition on his sexual desire?
Jealousy among co-wives is natural, and a wife's request for divorce because of it is normal and no cause for concern. You are permitted to divorce one of them without injustice, but do not rush into divorce, as it often has negative consequences, especially for the children.
You must be just between your wives in financial support and overnight stays; this is a condition for polygyny. Even if the two wives are in different countries, you must be as just as possible between them in overnight stays. Some scholars have mentioned that assigning a night is not obligatory for the wife who is not in the husband's country. If you are compelled to divorce, do not divorce both of them. Rather, keep the one who offers benefit, while considering the welfare of the children.
It is not permissible for either of your wives to ask you to divorce the other, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade a woman from asking for the divorce of her sister, "so that she may empty what is in her vessel."
The Shari'ah has permitted a spouse to lie to the other in a way that preserves marital harmony and does not diminish the rights of the other.
