What is the ruling on dealing with online charity websites if necessity dictates, knowing that Islam prohibits begging and that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "For one of you to take his ropes, then go to the mountain and come back carrying a bundle of firewood on his back and sell it, so that Allah may protect his face thereby, is better for him than to ask people, whether they give him or deny him"?

Abstaining from asking people is better than begging them, due to the humiliation involved in asking and being rejected. Islamic law has encouraged refraining from begging and condemned it. It has forbidden it when there is no need, and has threatened those who ask without right with a severe warning. Prophetic hadiths have been reported that forbid asking and warn against it, except out of necessity. As for one who is forced to ask, there is no blame upon him, whether the asking is direct or via the Internet, provided that the one asking does not debase himself or persist.
