It is not permissible to travel to non-Muslim countries except out of necessity, such as seeking knowledge not available in Muslim countries, or for calling to Allah. This is due to the corrupting influences that may result, especially concerning morals. However, this is permissible if one feels secure for oneself and one's family from trials, and is able to establish the rituals of Islam. The evidence found regarding the impermissibility of residing in non-Muslim countries applies to those who cannot establish the rituals of Islam and are not secure in their religion, such as the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "I am free of any Muslim who resides among the polytheists," and Allah Almighty's saying: "Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, 'In what [condition] were you?' They will say, 'We were oppressed in the land.' They will say, 'Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?' So, for those, their refuge is Hell - and wretched is that destination." If one fears for their religion, emigration becomes obligatory. And honoring one's mother is among the most emphasized obligations. A man once came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and asked him: "Who among the people is most deserving of my good companionship?" He said: "Your mother." He asked: "Then who?" He said: "Your mother." He asked: "Then who?" He said: "Your mother." He asked: "Then who?" He said: "Your father."
