Is intentionally making a worshiper laugh through speech considered one of the major sins?

It is not permissible to intentionally make a worshiper laugh, as this violates the sanctity of prayer and distracts the worshiper. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa prohibiting intentionally distracting a worshiper with speech or other means, citing the hadith: "Indeed, all of you are supplicating to your Lord, so do not harm one another, and do not raise your voices over one another in recitation." Other texts indicate that this act is more forbidden than merely raising one's voice during recitation in the mosque or passing in front of a worshiper. One who passes in front of a worshiper is described as a devil, and some scholars have considered passing in front of a worshiper to be among the major sins. The act of making someone laugh is even more distracting and a greater tribulation.
