Is it permissible for me to benefit from my parents' money deposited in banks with interest, and what are the Shariah limits in dealing with this money, and is it obligatory for me to search for another source of income?
It is not permissible to deposit money in a savings account in usurious banks because it is a forbidden usurious loan. Parents must be advised to abandon dealing with usury. However, there is no harm for children in eating from their parents' money obtained through usury, because it is forbidden only for the usurer, and not for those who take money from the usurer for a permissible reason, such as children and wives. Scholars have
cited as evidence for this the action of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who ate from the food of the Jews despite knowing their dealings with usury. Nor are the children obligated to seek another source of income.
