Is it permissible to dedicate a book to God, in addition to one's wife and children?

Allah is independent of His servants. Whoever performs good deeds intending thereby the Face of Allah will be rewarded. There is no harm in saying, "I dedicate this to Allah."

However, the phrase structured in this manner [أهدي هذا لله] shows a lack of proper reverence towards Allah. It is more befitting to say, "A dedication to Allah the Most High," and then continue with the rest of one's statement.
