Is the intent of the Hadith: "Whoever prays to Allah for forty days in congregation, catching the first Takbir, will be granted two absolutions: absolution from Hellfire and absolution from hypocrisy," that absolution is granted to its performer even with the commission of major sins such as adultery, theft, or disrespecting parents? And what about one who severs ties of kinship, given his (peace be upon him) saying: "The one who severs ties of kinship will not enter Paradise"?

Grave sins such as adultery and theft are not expiated except by sincere repentance, whereas a kiss and similar acts are minor sins that Allah forgives by avoiding grave sins, as Allah Almighty says: "Those who avoid grave sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones – indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness." As for grave sins, the أهل السنة (Ahl al-Sunnah) unanimously agree that they require repentance, regret, and cessation from them. It has also been reported that the five daily prayers are an expiation for what occurs between them for one who avoids grave sins.
