I work with my wife at a tobacco company that produces mu‘assal, and we joined a Hajj association and were able to obtain tickets for a tourist Hajj. Our salary from the company is our only source of income, and we are over fifty. We want to know the ruling on this work, especially since we have obtained non-refundable travel tickets.
Praise be to Allah.
Smoking and shisha are forbidden due to their harm, and so is their manufacturing and sale. Working in a company that produces mu'assal (flavored tobacco) is forbidden, and its earnings are forbidden. One must repent and leave this job.
If you were unaware of the prohibition or followed those who are lenient, there is no sin regarding the past money. However, if you were aware of the prohibition, then the money must be disposed of in charitable ways, unless you are in need.
Regarding Hajj, the expenses must be lawful. But if you have obtained non-refundable tickets, then perform Hajj and consider the money a loan that you will later compensate for by spending it on good causes. Sustenance is in the hands of Allah; He gives it to His righteous servants.
