The question

Is it permissible to take the drug "Adderall" to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), given that Islam prohibits intoxicants, and a doctor has prescribed it? And did the Prophet, peace be upon him, seek medical treatment, or did something similar occur during his era?

The answer

It is permissible to use the drug "Adderall," which contains narcotic substances, for the treatment of hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder, under certain conditions if no permissible alternative is available: that the need for it reaches the level of necessity or severe need, that a trustworthy Muslim physician testifies to its benefits for the patient, that its use is restricted to the amount that fulfills the necessity, and that it does not cause harm greater than or equal to the harm for which it was used, such as addiction. Treatment with narcotics was not known during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. It is advisable to present the matter to a trustworthy Muslim physician.
