To what extent is the statement true that the Almighty's saying: {And He created the male and the female} indicates that God praises His creation of opposites, and that scholars have not mentioned the ambiguous hermaphrodite because his matter is known to God as male or female? And does one break an oath if he swore not to speak to a male or female, and then spoke to a hermaphrodite? And is it true that there is no third gender other than male and female, and that imitating the opposite sex is a change to God's creation and obedience to Satan? And does His saying, the Almighty: {He bestows upon whom He wills females, and He bestows upon whom He wills males; or He couples them, males and females} confirm the absence of a third type?

A number of exegetes (mufassirun) have stated that the khuntha mushkil (hermaphrodite with ambiguous sex) is either male or female in the sight of Allah Almighty. Therefore, if someone swears not to speak to a male or a female, their oath is broken if they speak to a khuntha mushkil. Some have disagreed with this view, considering that it is based on the predominant (understanding), and that a khuntha exists but is rare. Some people have denied the existence of the khuntha based on Allah's division of creation into male and female, but this is ignorance of the language and a deficiency in understanding the vastness of Allah's power, and the verses do not negate the existence of the khuntha. As for the deliberate imitation of men by women and women by men, it is a grave sin, and its perpetrator is cursed, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.
