Is a man sinful for saying, "I wish my Lord had created me female," or vice versa, and is this considered an objection to Allah's creation?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for males or females to wish to be of the opposite sex, because it is an objection to Allah's decree and a sign of displeasure with it, and it leads to unemployment, laziness, and abandonment of work. Allah Almighty has forbidden wishing for what He has favored some of us over others in Surat An-Nisa. For both men and women, there is a share of what they have earned, and they are commanded to ask Allah of His bounty. The verse has been interpreted as prohibiting envy and wishing for what is religiously or divinely impossible, and it includes women wishing to be men or to have the same virtues as men.
