The answer

Poetry, its good is like the good of speech, and its bad is like the bad of speech. It is in the same standing as speech. So, what its content is good, it is good, and what its content is blameworthy, it is blameworthy, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Poetry is in the same standing as speech: its good is like the good of speech, and its bad is like the bad of speech," and due to the saying of Allah the Almighty: "And as for the poets, those who go astray follow them. Do you not see that they roam in every valley? And that they say what they do not do? Except those who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah much and defend themselves after they have been wronged." If the poetry contains the Oneness of Allah and praise of Him, or praise of the Messenger, peace be upon him, without exaggeration, or mentions his biography, or if it contains admonitions, wisdom, scientific matters, and literary topics within the bounds of Sharia, then it is good. However, if it contains anything that violates creed, or contradicts good morals, or calls for falsehood, evil, and indecency, or slanders the honor of Muslims, then it is ugly and blameworthy.
