What is the ruling on fighting for tribalism or ostentation, rather than to elevate the word of Allah, and is one who is killed in such a fight considered a suicide?
A suicide is one who kills himself by one of the lethal means, intending to destroy himself. Prophetic narrations have been reported clarifying the consequence of the suicide, among them that whoever kills himself with poison, or with iron, or by throwing himself from a mountain, he will be tormented by his act in the fire of Hell, abiding therein eternally. As for one who fights out of ostentation, or tribalism, or courage, he is not in the way of Allah the Almighty and is not considered a martyr, but he is not a suicide. For the way of Allah is fighting so that the word of Allah may be supreme.
