Is it obligatory for one who has washed a deceased person to perform ghusl or change their clothes before the funeral prayer?

Washing after washing a deceased person is recommendable (mustahabb) and not obligatory (wajib). This is the view of the majority of scholars, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: “Whoever washes a deceased person, let him perform ghusl (ritual bath), and whoever carries him, let him perform wudu’ (ablution).” The apparent meaning of this command indicates obligation. However, other hadiths clarify that it is not obligatory, such as the statement of Ibn Abbas: “There is no ghusl required of you for washing your deceased if you have washed him, for your deceased is not impure. It is sufficient for you to wash your hands.” And similar is the statement of Ibn Umar: “We used to wash the deceased, and some of us would perform ghusl while others would not.” As for washing clothes, there is no basis for it in the Sunnah.
