Are offer and acceptance in marriage a matter of free will or predestination, and is a bad choice attributed to divine decree?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The offer and acceptance in marriage is a voluntary act performed by an individual of their own free will. The Holy Qur'an links reward and punishment to voluntary actions, such as His (the Almighty's) saying: "For whoever among you wills to be upright." Allah has bestowed upon humanity intellect and perception to choose what suits them. These voluntary actions do not fall outside the power and will of Allah, as confirmed by His (the Almighty's) saying: "And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds." Therefore, marriage is predestined by Allah, but the servant performs it by their own choice and will, and is blamed for a poor choice and praised for a good one.
