What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding the completion of a girl's marriage to her fiancé, after she discovered that he had been engaging in homosexual acts with young men? And how can she ascertain his repentance? And should she confront him with what she has learned?

If a young man is of good religious character and morals, the default is to assume his integrity, and not to think ill of him based merely on suspicion, especially since he is a حافظ (memorizer) of the Book of Allah, as Allah the Almighty says: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin."

If his commission of the heinous act is proven and then he repented from it, then repentance demolishes what came before it, as Allah the Almighty says: "The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise."

And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, when a servant confesses then repents, Allah forgives him." There is then no harm in accepting him as a husband.

The sincerity of repentance is known by good conduct and avoiding disobedience, and there is no need to confront him with that, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have not been commanded to probe the hearts of people, nor to tear open their bellies," meaning: "I have been commanded to judge by what is apparent, and Allah handles what is hidden."
