How did the Companions treat the Messenger?

The Companions loved the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and revered and honored him with a love free from affectation. They set the most wonderful examples in this regard. Among these is what Urwah ibn Mas'ud said to his people after returning from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "By Allah, I have never seen a king whose companions revere him as much as Muhammad's companions revere Muhammad." Likewise, the answer of Khubayb ibn Adiy when he was asked: "Would you like Muhammad to be in your place?" He said: "No, by Allah the Mighty, I would not like him to ransom me with a thorn that pricks his foot while he is safe and secure in his place."

They interacted with him in ordinary matters with natural treatment, and he was not distinguished from them, to the extent that a stranger who did not know him would ask: "Which of you is the son of Abdul-Muttalib or which of you is Muhammad?"
