Filial piety towards the grandmother is an emphasized duty, and maintaining ties with paternal uncles and aunts is obligatory. Maintaining ties with the children of paternal uncles is recommended. Maintaining kinship ties (silat al-rahim) is achieved through whatever is conventionally considered a connection, and the degrees of connection vary between obligatory and recommended. Filial piety towards the grandmother and maintaining ties with paternal uncles and aunts must be done in a way that does not cause harm or corruption. If communication via WhatsApp is conventionally considered a connection, it is sufficient to avoid severing ties, while striving to elevate the degrees of connection. Striving to reconcile people has a great reward. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not inform you of something better than the degree of fasting, prayer, and charity?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Reconciling people, for discord among people is the razor (that shaves away good deeds)."
