Is it obligatory to satisfy the relatives who reproach one for a lack of communication, despite attempts to connect on various occasions and being preoccupied with studies, marriage, and responsibilities?

Maintaining kinship ties is something the Islamic law encourages and prohibits severing. The Lawgiver did not specify the extent of these ties, but rather referred the matter to custom. Therefore, a woman is primarily obligated to fulfill her responsibilities towards her home and children, and then she should maintain her kinship ties in a customary manner that does not cause hardship and does not distract her from her fundamental responsibilities. There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah. So, if relatives are only satisfied by her neglecting her responsibilities, she should not heed their words. Kinship ties can be maintained through phone calls and attending their occasions, and this applies to relatives other than parents. As for parents, maintaining ties with them is among the confirmed obligations. Whoever fulfills the rights of Allah and the rights of His servants will not be harmed by people's displeasure.
