Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) draw figurative art?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was the best of teachers. He would clarify meanings with illustrative diagrams, as he did in the hadith narrated by Ibn Mas'ud, where he drew a square, a line extending outside it, and small lines to explain "man, his appointed time, his hopes, and afflictions." In another hadith, he drew a straight line representing "the path of Allah" and lines to its right and left representing "other paths," then recited: "And indeed, this is My straight path, so follow it and do not follow the [other] ways." This indicates the permissibility of drawing for clarification, as long as it does not involve drawing animate beings.
