What is the ruling on the fast of a thirteen-year-old child who masturbated during the day in Ramadan out of ignorance that this invalidates the fast, and what is the ruling on his prayers after three years of masturbation if he did not know that it necessitates ghusl?

The emission of semen is a sign of puberty. If it is emitted by a child, religious obligations such as prayer and fasting become incumbent upon him.

If he masturbated out of ignorance of its prohibition while fasting, some scholars lean towards his fast not being invalidated, but it is more cautious to make it up. However, if he knew of the prohibition of masturbation but was ignorant that it invalidates the fast, then his fast is invalid and he must make it up.

Prayers performed while in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) are invalid and must be made up, due to the absence of the condition of purity from major ritual impurity. Whoever does not know their exact number should make them up until he is reasonably sure that he has absolved himself of the obligation. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and those who agreed with him were of the opinion that redoing the prayer is not necessary if the worshipper missed a condition out of ignorance.
