Maintaining kinship ties is obligatory, and severing them prevents entry into Paradise. Allah Almighty created the womb (rahim) and made it seek refuge with Him from being severed. Allah Almighty said, "I will maintain ties with those who maintain ties with you, and I will cut off those who cut you off." Maintaining ties with one's mother and honoring her are among the most emphasized obligations. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made the mother's right three times greater than the father's right. If the father's right conflicts with the mother's right, the mother's right takes precedence, unless it is possible to combine both. The son must not obey his father in severing ties with his mother, for there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator.
