Is it permissible to refer to Amazigh people as "Berber" despite their dislike of this name and their assertion that their true name is "Amazigh," citing the hadith: "Do not call your brother by what he dislikes"? And what is the sin of one who calls them by that name?

It is preferable for a Muslim to address his brother by the name dearest to him, and it is most appropriate to call the Amazigh by the name they prefer. Calling them Berbers is considered a sin if savagery and barbarism are intended by it. However, if it is intended as a name by which they were historically known, then there is no sin in it, provided no harm is intended. The prevalence of this name during the era of the Salaf indicates this.
