Will those who persist in grave sins on the Day of Resurrection be of three categories: those who do not enter Hellfire due to the abundance of their good deeds, those who are among the People of A'raf, and those who enter Hellfire due to the abundance of their evil deeds? And will the persistent sinner with many good deeds suffer torment in the grave? And will the one who repents from grave sins, even if they were many and heinous and he did not receive a prescribed punishment in this world, but he returned to Allah and increased his good deeds—will he suffer torment in the grave or enter Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection?

The summary of the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah concerning perpetrators of major sins is that whoever repents from them, Allah will accept his repentance, based on the Almighty's saying: "Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous deeds; for those, Allah will admit them to Paradise and they will not be wronged in the least," and His saying: "And whoever repents and does righteousness, he has truly turned to Allah with an acceptable repentance." As for one upon whom the prescribed punishment (حد) was carried out due to his sin, that was an expiation for him. However, whoever did not repent and upon whom the prescribed punishment was not carried out, and he died persisting in his sin, he is under the will of Allah; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him. And if he enters Hellfire, he will not remain in it eternally, because Tawheed (monotheism) will bring him out of it. And whoever's good deeds and evil deeds are equal will be among the people of Al-A'raf (The Heights), and then he will enter Paradise.
