Is playing Ludo permissible if no money is involved?

Ludo is a simplified version of Pachisi, where players move their tokens based on the outcome of a dice roll. The ruling on playing Ludo is prohibition, because it resembles the game of "backgammon" (Tawla) which relies on dice, and Islamic texts have prohibited dice. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever plays backgammon [nardashir], it is as if he dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig." This ruling applies to playing with dice even without money, by consensus of the majority of scholars.
