The answer

Wiping the bottom of the khuff (leather slipper) is considered mustahabb (recommended) by some scholars, while what is obligatory is wiping its top. Scholars have differed regarding the amount that must be wiped from the top. As for the recommended method of wiping according to the Shafi'is, it is to place one's left palm under the heel of the khuff and one's right palm on the tips of the toes, then pass the right hand towards the shin and the left hand towards the tips of the toes of the foot. According to the Malikis, it is to place one's right hand on the tips of the toes on the top of the right foot and one's left hand underneath it, then pass both hands towards the ankles. The left hand is then curved towards the heel until it passes the ankle. They differed on whether the left foot should be wiped in the same manner as the right or in reverse.
