Striving for truthfulness is a cause for divine success and guidance, while negligence in avoiding falsehood leads to abandonment and deviation. Words expressing love between non-mahram men and women are impermissible. As for those between whom such expressions are permissible, like two women or two men who are brothers in Islam, or a husband and wife, they must be within what is recognized as good (bi'l-ma'roof), far from exaggeration, excessiveness, and words that might imply inappropriate meanings. Some of these phrases, such as "I love you to death" and "I am yours, with you, and for you, and I suffice you from the world," are evidently untruthful and excessive, and might even suggest polytheistic meanings.
