What is the ruling on using certain words or phrases that might be understood as transgressing Islamic boundaries or attributing perfection to other than Allah, such as: "I love you limitlessly," or "My heart is all yours," or describing something as "perfect," knowing that the intention is to exaggerate in expression without intending the literal meaning that contradicts the creed?

It is permissible to express profound love if it does not exceed the boundaries of Sharia, such as a husband's love for his wife or love for one's homeland; this is supported by various hadiths indicating its permissibility. However, exceeding love to the point where it equals or surpasses the love of Allah Almighty is forbidden, because the love of Allah and His Messenger is obligatory and takes precedence over every beloved. A Muslim should strive to strengthen his relationship with Allah, to know Him, and to frequently contemplate His Names and Attributes, for by doing so, Allah will be magnified in his heart, and his love for Him will increase.
